Kokoro Health and Fitness in Atlantic Beach on Mayport Road opened 11 months ago.
Josiah and Mindy Miller own the gym, and Josiah is the head trainer.
He explained, “Kokoro is a Japanese word, and it stands for the essence of wholeness through mind, body, and spirit which is our entire approach to our business here.”
The gym specializes in semi-private personal training. Classes are 6 people max so you can count on having personalized attention from your trainer.
Kokoro also offers 1-on-1 private personal training.
Miller says he wants the focus on you, your goals, and your progress.
Miller says their mission is to build a happier, healthier, and more fit community, and they live and work right here in your neighborhood. You can find them out supporting small businesses, volunteering, hosting events.
Kokoro is a veteran-owned. Miller is a Navy vet.
Clients are also provided with a journal to track everything you eat based on the blue zone diet- which requires no weighing or complicated measuring of food. You eat a balanced diet of protein, carbs, vegetables and fats.
Miller jokingly says his programs are like CrossFit without the barbells and the pain.
He says the gym is for active people who want to stay active the rest of their lives- functional fitness.
