It’s a good idea to give yourself a little extra time if you have anything to do at Naval Station Mayport over the next few days.
The base is holding security exercises Tuesday through Thursday. You can expect an increase in emergency vehicles on the installation, slowdowns getting through gates and the sound of simulated gunfire.
“This is a naturally-occurring event that we do all the time to test our guys, test their abilities to respond to any kind of threats that may occur,” says Master at Arms Senior Chief Sean Stull.
He says anyone with a medical appointment at Mayport should plan a little more time than normal since there’s a good chance of delays. Stull says most of the drills will take place during working hours.
“They’ll also be able to make all their appointments and everything, there will just be some slowdowns,” Stull says.
This week’s drills are not in response to anything that’s happened in recent months, it’s just a normal exercise that takes place on a regular basis.
