Federal prosecutors have recommended five months in jail and $500 in restitution for Jeffrey Register, a Nassau County man accused of having a role in the U.S. Capitol Riots on Jan. 6, 2021.
In the memorandum filed on Dec. 28, prosecutors state Register “waved the crowd toward an apparently weaker access point: the entrance to the Speaker’s Lobby.” Minutes later, Ashli Babbit was killed trying to breach the last barricaded entrance.
The document included images from videos taken of the Capitol Riots that appears to show Register wearing a “God, Guns and Trump” sweatshirt and entering the U.S. Capitol.
Register was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, knowingly engaging in disorderly conduct on restricted grounds, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Register entered a guilty plea on Oct. 14. His sentencing will be on Jan. 18, 2022.
