Multiple people dead, injured in violent weekend in Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Fl — Three people are recovering from injuries in a shooting at a basketball court on the northside. A teenager was grazed by a bullet at a park off New Kings and Soutel Drive on the northside Sunday afternoon. Witnesses say a black male came through the woods near the entrance of J. Gardner Sams Memorial Park began firing a pistol toward the basketball court. The suspect fled before officers arrived.

Also Sunday afternoon, a person involved in a crash on I-95 before Dunn Avenue died. Police say he died from a gunshot wound.

Late on Saturday night, police responded to a home on Jasper Avenue in the Woodland Acres area, where a man was found shot in the leg. A suspect fled the area on a motorcycle. Police say three to four people were inside a home when, for unknown reasons, an argument started which led to the suspect shooting the victim.

Early Sunday morning a juvenile victim drove themselves to a hospital after being shot in the hand while traveling southbound on MLK Jr. Parkway near the Mathews Bridge exit.

A woman in her 40′s was critically hurt on Saturday in Mayport in what appears to have been a drive-by shooting. Police say a dark convertible drove by a home with a large gathering outside and started shooting. Three black men were inside the car. No other information about the suspect was provided. JSO says this appears to be a targeted shooting.

Early on Saturday, police responding to a shooting found a man dead in a car crash on Franklin Street, near Downtown Jacksonville.

Around 4 am Saturday, a man was shot in the chest on Baymeadows near San Jose in Goodbys Creek. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No suspect description was given.

On Saturday afternoon, a woman was stabbed on San Pablo Road, south of Beach Boulevard. She died at the scene. A man was taken to a local hospital where he was in surgery.


The City of Jacksonville Safety and Crime Reduction Commission is set to meet today at 9 am. There is also a Social Justice and Community Investment Special Meet at 11:30 am.
