Another attempt to get Michael Dunn sentenced for February convictions ahead of a pending re-trial for murder has been denied.
During a hearing today, Judge Russell Healey denied the state’s motion to sentence Dunn. Dunn was convicted in February of three counts of attempted second degree murder relating to a shooting at a Gate gas station on the Southside. He faces up to 60 years in prison for those convictions.
17-year-old Jordan Davis died in the shooting. The jury hung on the first degree murder charge facing Dunn and the lesser included charges of second degree murder and manslaughter.
Jury selection for the new trial is scheduled for September 22. Dunn’s attorney for the initial trial will represent him during sentencing, but he has been appointed a new attorney for the retrial.
Dunn claims he feared for his life when he fired on an SUV with the four teens inside.
