Jacksonville, FL — As Memorial Hospital gets ready to open its newly renovated and expanded emergency department, hospital leaders, physicians, EMS crews, and community leaders came together Friday to hold a celebratory ribbon cutting.
The project, which kicked off in early 2017, was designed to improve the flow of the emergency department, streamline care, and allow doctors to treat patients more timely.
The hospital says the $23 million renovation included bringing all ER services under one roof, complete with a new entrance, larger waiting areas, and new technology. The pediatric ER will also now have its own separate entrance and waiting room, with 40% larger rooms.
Memorial Hospital says it has also added on a rooftop helipad to provide faster access to medical care.
We're told this new space is set to officially open by August 1st.
Once that's done, the final phase of the project will get underway, which includes creating more parking, adding a dedicated CT scanner to the emergency department, as well as renovating some of the existing treatment rooms.
