Jacksonville, FL — A $2.5 million renovation and upgrade of Memorial Hospital's cardiovascular operating rooms has now wrapped up.
The hospital says these operating rooms are now considered to be 'Smart ORs' or 'iSuites', which are designed to support modern technology and future innovation.
Cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr. Dale Mueller says these upgrades will increase efficiency and optimize patient care.
"Being able to access 3-D images during cardiothoracic and vascular surgery enhances visualization and communication so everyone in the room involved in the patient's care can follow precise details and provide real-time input during surgical procedures," says Mueller.
As part of these upgrades, we're told surgeons will also be able to consult in real-time with specialists off-site directly from the operating room using streaming image and video capabilities.
Memorial Hospital says it performs about 300 heart surgeries a year.
