Daniel Davis failed to secure the endorsement of The Jacksonville Associate of Fire Fighters.

Action New Jax has learned the union’s executive board recommended endorsing Davis today. But after a vote that spanned three days, only 54 percent of the Firefighters Union agreed to endorse Davis. That is well short of the 66 percent needed.

“Daniel is grateful for leadership’s recommendation, and for the support of the majority of the voting fire fighters,” said Erin Isaac of Davis’ campaign. “As mayor, Daniel will always support our first responders and is incredibly proud of the growing coalition of fire fighters and law enforcement officers supporting his campaign for mayor.”

Per the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters Constitution and by-laws:

“The Executive Board will review candidates for public office and shall make recommendations to the membership for endorsements. Formal endorsements shall be issued on behalf of Local 122 by a two-thirds membership vote at a regular or specially-called meeting. Therefore the recommendation does not meet the two-thirds requirement.”
