Mayor Brown Appoints New Military Affairs Officer & Fire Chief

Mayor Alvin Brown announces 6 appointees to his administration (Alyssa Spirato)

A former admiral for the United States Navy and the city's Emergency Preparedness Division Chief are among the appointees named by Mayor Alvin Brown Wednesday into his administration as he pushes to put his reorganization plan into action.

Serving as the first ever Director of Military Affairs, former commander of the U.S. 4th fleet and the U.S. Navy’s Southern Command Victor Guillory will step up to the plate.

“He has extensive experience in Washington. He knows the challenges of the twenty first century as it relates to military affairs and veterans,” says Mayor Brown.

This position created in the Mayor's reform plan serves to provide effective communication between the Mayor and the military community. He'll make $119 thousand a year.

Marty Senterfitt, Division chief for the emergency preparedness division will serve as fire and rescue chief. His appointment will be put into effect December 31st with an annual salary of $135 thousand a year.

“Marty’s years of experience in emergency management show he has a cool mind needed to be the effective great leader that we need in that department,” says Mayor Brown.

In addition, the Mayor also appointed including three ranking members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, and a new Director of Employee Services.

Ivan Mote will serve as Division Chief of Rescue, Chip Drysdale will serve as Division Chief of Fire Operations and Eleanor Byrd will serve as Division Chief of Training. All of them will make $116 thousand dollars annually.

Jarik Conrad will serve as Jacksonville’s Director of Employee Services. He will bring home $120 thousand a year.
