Jacksonville FL — On Monday, the Mayo Clinic released a statement saying that it’s requiring all its staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 17th or complete a declination process. This announcement comes on the same day as nearly 60 medical and healthcare organizations urged to make vaccines mandatory for healthcare workers.
The clinic says for staff that decline they will have to go through and complete education programs, wear a mask, and socially distance.
“We are proud of our staff’s high vaccination rates and are grateful that the vast majority have embraced the opportunity to get vaccinated,” says Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., Mayo Clinic’s president and CEO. “Our patients expect to be safe when they come to Mayo Clinic, and we need to do everything we can to protect everybody.”
According to a statement from the clinic, overall vaccination rates at all its campuses range from 75% - 85%, including over 95% for physicians. They say they hope this new requirement will increase those rates even more.
