Jacksonville, FL — Just because high school seniors won't have a traditional graduation doesn’t mean they can’t be celebrated.

That's why on Tuesday morning Mandarin High School delivered 600 "Class of 2020" yard signs to their graduating seniors.

Mandarin High School’s principal, assistant principal, teachers and staff paid a special visit to their high school seniors and put down a sign in each yard of their graduating seniors.

It’s something high school senior Sarah Brunner told me she wasn’t expecting.

"I was pretty excited because I felt like my school cared about me. Even though I know there’s a bunch students, they like chose me to put a sign in my yard," Brunner said.

Joe McKenzie, the assistant principal, believes it's important for teachers everywhere to lift up their students, especially those who won’t get to walk across the stage after 12 years of hard work.

"Right now in these unprecedented times I think it’s really important to show these seniors, this class of 2020 how phenomenal they are, how hard they worked, and even the smallest tokens mean a lot," McKenzie said.

Daizha Brown walked out of her home and was greeted by some familiar faces: those of her principal and assistant principal.

She was even handed a "Class of 2020" T-shirt.

Brown told me that while she's happy to see how much her school cares, she does wish she wasn’t missing out on things like grad bash, prom and graduation.

"This is an eye opener for people to understand like this is real; this is something that’s happening. If graduation needs to be canceled then that’s what needs to happen."

She told me that everything her school is doing is for the safety of her and her classmates.

Duval County Public Schools told us that due to safety concerns they won't be having any graduation ceremonies in May.

Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene said that after receiving student feedback they’re now looking at moving ceremonies to early July.
