Man charged with murder in connection to weekend shooting death on Jacksonville’s Northwest side

Jacksonville FL — Jacksonville Police have announced an arrest in connection to a shooting death of a father of five on the northwest side from this past weekend. Police say 40-year-old William Broadnax is charged with murder. Police say him, and Derrick Hartley were arguing in a parking lot near Moncrief Road and 35th Street late Saturday when their dispute escalated into a fight. JSO says that's when Broadnax pulled out a gun and shot Hartley several times. Broadnax left the scene before police arrived.

According to Broadnax’s arrest report obtained by WOKV Tuesday morning, the argument started when Broadnax backed in to Hartley’s vehicle.

JSO is crediting multiple witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting with providing them with critical information that led to an arrest.

A friend of Hartley’s is remembering him as a family man who helped a lot of people find a home when he worked as a realtor.

“This is the second friend I’ve lost in a week. Its sad that it had to happen that way.” Corey Brown says.

Even though an arrest has been made, police are asking anyone who might have any information on this incident to call them at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
