Jacksonville, FL — A Macclenny woman now faces up to 45 years in the Florida State Prison, after being found guilty by a jury of aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
[ We first told you in late 2015, when Shauna Taylor, now 40-years-old, was first arrested. ]
According to investigators, Taylor gave birth to a premature child in late 2012, but only days after bringing the child home in early 2013, Taylor returned to the hospital with the baby three times.
Each of those visits, investigators say, included 'exaggerated' and falsified symptoms of the child's health. In the third visit, the child was said to have experienced liver failure.
Around that time, investigators say they began receiving tips claiming that Taylor had Munchausen by proxy and was abusing the child. Those tipsters also informed investigators about a fundraising campaign for this sick child.
Investigators say thanks to those tips, they were able to test the baby for certain poisons related to liver failure and determined there was iron in the baby's system well above regular levels. Eventually, investigators say the baby's liver function returned to normal while in the care of the hospital.
A sentencing hearing for Tayor has been set for the week of October 1st.
Investigators say Taylor had a history of child abuse with her other 9 children, as well.
