She never imagined her services in the military would lead to today.
“There was a couple of shingles that kept coming off,” Summerset said.
Summerset has had this home for nearly 20 years and never had any roof repairs. Getting it fixed was going to cost her $10,000. That was until Chris Canipe, President of locally owned roofing company, Model City Roofing and others came to help.
“The homeowner here Holli and our partners at Owens Corning and Purple Hearts Homes, we’re coming together to give her a new roof on her house and just wanted to give back for everything she’s given to the community,” Canipe said.
Canipe says Model City Roofing provides the labor. Purple Heart Homes, a nonprofit veterans focused organization aiming to help vets with housing issues, finds the vets. And Owens Corning Roof Development Project, designed to match networks with military families who could benefit from free new roofs or roof installations, provided the shingles.
“Thank you, I’m forever grateful, thank you, phenomenal,” Summerset said.

Canipe says this is the 4th home, Model City Roofing has helped this year and they hope to do more. For him, it was a personal honor because his father is a retired vet who served in the Army during the cold war.
