The man who pled guilty to killing a Chicago Bears fan outside the Landing in 2012 will spend the rest of his life in prison.

The sentencing for 28-year-old Matthew Hinson took all day at the Duval County Courthouse, with some family of the victim flying down from Illinois to speak.

Hinson pled to stabbing 42-year-old William “Chris” Pettry.  Pettry was in town to watch the Bears play the Jaguars.  The two had a fight which police say may have started with Pettry talking to Hinson’s wife. Hinson slashed Pettry’s throat, although he told the court today he did not mean to kill the man.

Hinson is an Orange Park High grad and Navy veteran.
