Jacksonville, FL — A Lake Lucina Elementary School student is being investigated, after bringing a knife on to the campus.
The school’s principal, Michelle Walsh, sent parents a recorded message Tuesday to let them know about the incident. The recording says a student tip led them to the student with a knife, who had also verbally threatened to harm someone. That student was detained without incident, according to the message.
“Please remind your students that resolving conflict is a matter of words and dialogue, and should never involve any form of physical confrontation,” says the message from Walsh.
She says the Code of Conduct will be enforced. The Duval County Public School District says elementary school students who bring prohibited objects to school could face anywhere from a one- to five-day suspension, assignment to teen court, or a referral for possible placement at an alternative school. Duval County School Police are also investigating.
Walsh further encourages parents to encourage their children to submit tips like this if they see anything suspicious or harmful on campus, in order to ensure the school stays a safe environment.
