The Lake City Police Department (LCPD) has received multiple reports from concerned community members receiving scam messages.

These messages mimic fraud alerts but are in fact scams. The image below is an example of what one of these messages looks like.
Here are some tips by the LCPD if you happen to encounter one of these messages:
- Do not respond to the message or call the listed number.
- Verify with credit reporting agencies that no account has been opened in your name.
- Monitor your credit reports regularly for suspicious activity.
- Freeze your credit accounts to protect against unauthorized access.
- Contact the three major credit reporting agencies—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—directly to freeze your credit for free. Avoid paying third-party companies for this service.
