‘Kind of shocking’: Jacksonville Jaguars players react to Head Coach Doug Pederson’s firing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action Sports Jax was in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ locker room Monday as players heard the news about Head Coach Doug Pederson being fired after three seasons and a 22-29 record.

Here’s what some players had to say about Pederson’s departure from the team:

Running back Tank Bigsby

“It was kind of shocking, just as a second-year player, just learning how this league is and the business side of it, it was. Coach Doug was a really good coach, taught me a lot of things and I really appreciate it.”

Defensive end Travon Walker

“It’s definitely something that me personally I don’t want to hear. I think he is a great coach, he has done some great things for this organization, and he’s a great guy, great coach like I said. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, but you know it’s life. We are all faced with obstacles in life, just gotta keep going.”

Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

“At the end of the day I understand that it’s a business or whatever, but we hate to see somebody lose their job. I mean, I just wish the best for him, and thank him for everything he has done for me, for taking a chance on me. I just want to thank him for that.”

Safety Andre Cisco

“Really great man. For me, Doug is probably the best head coach I have had. So for me, I came from Syracuse, came here had my first year which wasn’t a great year, and then Doug kinda showed me what the NFL is supposed to be like and what it looks like in his program, the hard work we put in is second to none. Wherever I end up whether it’s here or somewhere else, whatever program I’m under, he set the foundation for my career in terms of how it’s supposed to look and the grind.”

Wide receiver Christian Kirk

“Obviously, it’s unfortunate because at the end of the day, we all had a hand in this season and just how the way things have shaken out. I have a ton of respect for Doug. He has made me a better football player, a better man. I think he’s one of the better coaches to have coached in this league and it’s just unfortunate the way things went. But obviously, the organization has to make a decision about what they think is best going forward.”
