SUV flips onto I-95 from nearby road, killing the driver and a child, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is asking the community to keep the family of the victims killed in a crash overnight in North Jacksonville in their thoughts and prayers.

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, police said a 31-year-old man was traveling westbound on Clark Road near the I-95 overpass in a grey Cadillac SUV — when for unknown reasons — the SUV crossed over to the eastbound lane and struck a guardrail.

JSO said the car then flew off Clark Road onto I-95 South, flipping multiple times.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle, JSO said, and died at the scene.

There were two children inside the SUV at the time of the crash. They were taken to the hospital, where one of them died. The other is in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff’s office said this crash marks roughly 170 traffic deaths this year in Duval County.
