Officers said two shooters stood in the roadway at 5 AM firing at two men in their car on Arlington Road. The victims got back onto the Arlington Expressway drove over the Matthews Bridge and then were shot at again.

The victims managed to drive themselves to a local hospital and are recovering.

JSO said the suspects were described as two Hispanic men who drove off in a dark-colored SUV. Based on the information provided, this shooting looks like a targeted attack.

Keion Parrish said he is not surprised this happened. He said he moved out of Arlington a few years ago because he believes shootings are becoming too common in this part of town.

“They moved a club over here and there’s always large fights. There is not enough police attention here,” said Parrish.

Originally, officers were called to the hospital Sunday morning regarding two men with gunshot wounds. One man was shot in the chest and the other in the leg.

Action News Jax checked JSO’s crime mapping tool and found crimes including assault, car theft, and vandalism reported so far this year within a mile of where the shooting happened.

Keion Parrish believes Arlington needs to be cleaned up with a consistent police presence.

“I hear about a lot of drug dealing at the parking lots and gas stations here. It’s just not good at all.”

However, long-time Arlington resident David Fowler said this community is as safe as any other town in Jacksonville.

“It’s a little rough sometimes but what can you expect at five in the morning? You shouldn’t be out that late anyway. This type of crime doesn’t happen too often here, or at least I haven’t seen it.”

JSO said they are still talking to witnesses and watching nearby surveillance video. If you have any information on this case, you are encouraged to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
