JSO releases new details on Westside foot pursuit, K-9 takedown of robbery suspect

Jacksonville, FL — A day after a wanted robbery suspect was taken into custody following a foot chase on the Westside, that involved one officer firing his service weapon, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is releasing new details.

JSO is still not identifying the suspect due to active investigations underway, but they have revealed that he's a 22-year-old black man. At this point, police say he's been positively tied to three robbery cases and a burglary, in addition to the original robbery warrant he was tied to.

However, police say detectives are currently working 8 cases involving a similar suspect description to this individual.

As for the officer who fired his service weapon at the suspect, he's been identified by the sheriff's office as Sgt. Clifford Sames. We're told he's been with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for 13 years and that this incident is his fourth officer-involved shooting.

Sgt. Sames was previously shot in the neck by a suspect in 2008.

We're told that while he was issued a body-worn camera, it was not activated during this foot pursuit and did not capture the gunfire incident.

The suspect is currently in custody on a robbery warrant, but now faces additional charges of burglary, resisting an officer, and striking/bodily harm to a police dog. We're told other charges are potentially pending.

The sheriff's office says they plan to identify the suspect at a later time. Sames is currently on administrative leave.
