Jacksonville, Fl — UPDATE: A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT team member is recovering at home, after he was shot multiple times while attempting to serve a warrant Monday morning in the area of Rutledge Pearson Drive and Ken Knight Drive.
According to Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams, JSO’s SWAT team was assisting the DEA in serving this warrant, which was considered to be ‘high risk’.
“During the execution of the warrant, gunshots came from inside the residence. A JSO SWAT team member was shot multiple times and was able to return fire,” says Williams.
Williams says the SWAT member is physically OK, thanks to his vest.
“The vest saved his life today, no doubt about it. So, he’s received some minor injuries and, obviously, there’s a significant amount of trauma even when you do get shot in the vest. So, he is very fortunate. We’re all very fortunate,” says Williams.
At this time, the SWAT member who was shot is not being identified as the sheriff’s office is still working to notify all of his family.
Williams says two people, a man and a woman, that were inside that home have detained. As of now, no charges have been filed, but he says the investigation remains very active.
