Authorities say a gang member known as "Moncrief Snoop Hitman Jr" was the man shot by JSO officer during a traffic stop late Thursday.
JSO says the officer who shot Keith Crowder, 24, is Serge Paul, a nine-year veteran of the department. Paul is on administrative leave.
Crowder remains in “life-threatening” condition, JSO said.
According to JSO, Crowder was speeding and had spun his tires when Paul attempted a traffic stop. Crowder didn’t pull over right away and stopped in front of a house he knew, JSO said.
Sometime during the stop, Crowder was shot, but JSO didn’t release additional details because they are waiting to speak with the officer’s attorney.
JSO Undersheriff Pat Ivey said Friday the department is looking at adding body cameras for officers but said the issue remains at the high cost of storing the data that officers collect.
