Jacksonville — JSO says more than 84 car break-ins happened in the River City last week. Our partners at Action News Jax made a heat map where the car break-ins and thefts happened, and they mainly take place in and around the interstates.
One Murray Hill woman who did not want to be identified, over concerns for her safety, says recently her fiance's truck was broken into. She says the thief rummaged through the center console and when they saw the damage the next morning the door was still locked.
“They did get um his work keys. A set of keys that did nothing for them.” She says.
The woman says this isn’t the first time someone has broken into her property. She says a couple months ago her door was kicked into her home and all her jewelry was taken.
The woman says when JSO responded to the break in, the officer who came to her house said he had been to at least a half dozen other car break-ins in her area recently.
“He wasn’t shocked, he said unfortunately its becoming the norm which that should never be the norm. She says.
JSO also says 139 guns have been stolen out of unlocked cars this year.
The Murray Hill woman says she is planning to move out of the neighborhood because of all the crime in the area.
“Unfortunately, its its gotten worse. In the three years that I’ve purchased my home there, its gotten worse.” She says.
According to JSO’s crime map there have been 6 thefts, 2 vehicles stolen, 3 robberies, and 3 burglaries around this woman’s home with-in the past month.
“I’m not gonna sit there knowing that with-in a half mile there’s that many. It’s just disgusting.” She says.
Before they move out she says they are putting up surveillance cameras around their home.
