Jacksonville, FL — A double shooting off Myrtle Avenue stemmed from a fight about a girl, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Now, the suspect police say is responsible has been arrested.

WOKV first reported Friday that two people were hit in an exchange of gunfire around West 16th Street and Myrtle Avenue. Police say one of those men, 19-year-old Raynard Hayward, died. The other, 22-year-old Deonta Clark, is the man who's been arrested.

Clark’s arrest report says witnesses saw Clark and Hayward fighting about a girl. Clark allegedly said “You think I won’t”, and then shot Hayward. Police say Hayward went down immediately, but Clark then stood over him and shot several more times. The arrest report says a friend of Hayward then pulled a gun and shot Clark in the arm.

A witness reported seeing Clark run to an abandoned house on North Myrtle Avenue, and then get in a car in which he was driven to the hospital, according to police. By that abandoned house, JSO says a handgun with blood on it was found.

The arrest report says Clark initially agreed to speak with investigators, but that statement has been redacted. JSO says Clark denied having shot anyone or having been in possession of a gun.

He’s now been arrested for second degree murder and carrying a concealed firearm.

JSO says there is a warrant out for the other person for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. They’re not releasing the identity of that person at this time.
