JSO: Escaped inmate back in custody, days after cutting GPS monitor

Jacksonville, FL — Days after an inmate escaped from police custody, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says she's now back behind bars.

Police say Tracey Broughman, 46, was on work release, but failed to report back to jail on July 28th and a short time later they realized her GPS ankle monitor had been cut.

JSO later found the monitor in a dumpster at the corner of Union Street and Market Street.

According to the arrest report, Broughman was arrested in the area of Airport Terrace Drive and Jefferson Road on Monday morning.

When questioned by an officer, the report says she gave a false name, Lesley Nicole Smith, because she was 'scared.'

But after checking a database and further questioning, police say Broughman's true identity was revealed.

Broughman will now be be charged with escape. She was currently incarcerated for bank fraud, organized fraud, possession of stolen credit cards, and theft.
