JSO Detective arrested for allegedly falsifying documents

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detective was arrested Thursday morning on a charge of official misconduct after falsified documents were found.

Officer Bryan Burnett, a narcotics detective, was allegedly falsifying forms that documented cash, narcotics, and other property. There were at least two forms that were falsified, involving less than $200. Burnett’s supervisor found the form on May 29 and filed an in-house complaint.

“This was an intentional falsification of documents, but not for additional gain,” Undersheriff Pat Ivey said. “There’s no evidence that he was stealing the money. Otherwise, the charge would be theft."

Burnett is facing a third-degree felony and after the criminal case is completed, then the JSO administration will review his case. Burnett chose to go on leave without pay.

According to Ivey, Burnett is the twenty-fifth police officer and the forty-ninth employee from JSO since July 1, 2015.
