A corrections officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on three charges.
According to JSO, Jatoia Howard is charged with official misconduct, conspiracy to commit false insurance claim, and leaving the scene of an accident with attended property. The first two charges are third-degree felonies.
“The charges stem from an investigation in which our Integrity Special Investigations Unit conducted starting in about mid-August, where Officer Howard was involved in a traffic crash. She left the scene and then conspired with a family member, essentially, and made false statements about who was driving the vehicle,” says JSO Undersheriff Pat Ivey.
Howard was a 5-year veteran with JSO, but has since resigned following her arrest.
This marks the 8th arrest of a JSO employee in 2020.
Undersheriff Pat Ivey held a news conference today in reference to the arrest of a JSO corrections officer.
