St. Johns County teacher who had sex with student gets year in jail

The St. Johns County teacher who reportedly had sex with one of her students at Nease High School pleaded no contest on Thursday to a charge of unlawful sex as minor.

Dionne Younce was given a year in the St. Johns County Jail and also received five years of probation.

Younce was arrested in February. The victim, 17, began talking to Younce in Aug. 2015 but that the conversations quickly escalated into a “vulgar” and “graphic” nature.

On one occasion, a police report said, Younce asked the victim for a pair of suspenders that she could wear as a “slutty nerd” to a party.

In the report, the victim said Younce told him she would no longer be able to look at him in class without thinking of having sex with him and that she wanted to “make it happen.”

According to police, that day occurred on Sept. 11, 2015, the night of a Nease High School vs. Pedro Melendez football game. Younce picked up the victim in her late-model Jeep and headed to her apartment, where he roommate was asleep on the couch.

The victim said he and Younce had sex for a half-hour, after which he was dropped off at the Gate Station located at U.S. 1 and Palm Valley Road near Nease High.

Younce reportedly told the victim “make sure you keep your mouth shut if you want to continue to do this and make sure you don’t tell anybody. You felt really good and it was better than I thought it would be coming from a student.”

St. Johns County authorities subpoenaed the victim’s phone records, which showed the victim discussed the relationship with his friends.

In Feb. 2016, authorities executed a search warrant on Younce’s home, which showed items in the home consistent with the victim’s description.
