Jacksonville, FL — Just an unbelievable story of recovery!
A St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputy who was involved in a serious motorcycle crash while on duty last summer is now back on the job.
Deputy Tony DeLeo released the following message to everyone who has followed his long road to recovery:
"I've undergone extensive but successful knee reconstruction & have worked very hard in rehab. I returned to modified duty at the SO [sheriff's office] just 6 months after the crash with some new scars. I hope to return to the Motor Unit very soon!"
DeLeo was responding to call on July 14, 2017, when he lost control of his motorcycle on a curve on County Road 210, parallel to Cimarrone Golf Club, crashed into a tree, and was thrown into a concrete power pole.
His injuries were described as serious and doctors were concerned he would lose use of one of his legs entirely.
