Power restored after evacuation, temporary suspension of operations at Hyatt Regency Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update 5:03 p.m.: Jeff Thompson, the General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville has reported that the Hotel has resumed normal functions.

Original: The Hyatt Regency in Downtown Jacksonville was reportedly evacuated following reports of a transformer fire at the location.

Jeff Thompson, the General manager of the location confirmed that the incident occurred due to a pipe burst on the hotel’s third floor, leading to water leaking onto a transformer and causing an isolated electrical fire.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the evacuation of the building, stating that no injuries or transports were reported.

Local authorities have reportedly deemed the property safe for entry.

Light smoke was observed at the scene that filled the east side of the building. Efforts are underway to investigate the cause and assess the extent of damage.

The property is currently without power, prompting the temporary suspension of normal hotel operations.
