Following a discussion on possibly selling JEA earlier this year, a question is on the ballot during the 2018 Midterm Elections in Duval County on whether voters should make the final decision on any possible sale of the utility.
The question is towards the end of a long ballot in Duval County, and a “Yes” vote means you would want to have voters in the county to have the final decision if JEA is potentially sold in the future. A “No” vote would mean you would like to see the Jacksonville City Council have the final decision. Currently the city charter says if the JEA board approves a sale of more than 10% of the utility, the city council would have the final decision on the sale.
Its important to note this is a non-binding poll, meaning its just a question to gauge the opinion of Duval County voters.
In April WOKV told you when Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry came out against privatizing JEA and did not plan to submit any privatization plans to the city council.
Early voting in Duval County ends this Sunday and Election Day is this upcoming Tuesday.
