They’re in business.
JAXPORT’s new cranes have started operations at the Blount Island Marine Terminal. The electric cranes can service wider vessels, allowing JAXPORT to broaden their cargo-handling capabilities.
The cranes were manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries, Co. Ltd, and JAXPORT says it was a $37.9 million investment on the port’s part- including $15 million from the Florida Department of Transportation. Each of the three new cranes can lift up to 65 tons and reach 22 containers across the ship’s deck.
JAXPORT says their long-term strategy is to purchase a total of ten of these cranes in the next ten years.
