Jax State Rep. Kim Daniels to settle elections violations

Jacksonville, FL — Jacksonville Democratic State Representative Kimberly Daniels has reached a deal to resolve several violations of Florida election law.

Back in March, the Florida Elections Commission announced it found probable cause Daniels violated state election code through three offenses, from when she was seeking re-election to the Jacksonville City Council in 2015. Among the complaints is that Daniels used $4,000 in campaign finances to pay for an advertisement for her "Demon Dictionary" book, and that the advertisement and an article written by Daniels didn't contain any political disclaimer.

The Consent Final Order says the Commission has found Daniels did, in fact, commit the three violations. They have imposed a civil penalty of $1,500. Daniels is also paying her own attorney’s fees and costs associated with this case. She is waiving any right to appeal.

Documents filed with the Commission show Daniels has already submitted a cashier’s check for the sum.

The Consent Order was actually issued in October, but it will be formally accepted or rejected by the Commission tomorrow, November 28th. If the Commission accepts the agreement, the case will be closed. If they reject the agreement or choose not to make a decision, Daniels could get another hearing.

The Florida Commission on Ethics has also found probably cause to believe Daniels committed violations, specifically filing inaccurate financial disclosures while serving as a City Councilwoman. That Commission believes Daniels did not claim several time-share and real property assets or mortgage liabilities.
