The mayor of Jacksonville Beach says it is unlikely bridges to the beaches will be open on Saturday because of the impacts from Hurricane Matthew.
Mayor Charlie Latham says there is significant damage in Jacksonville Beach, with flooding all the way up to 2nd Street.
“I know it’s inconvenient,” Latham said. “I know that you left and you want to come home. I think the probability of tomorrow is almost nil and it looks like it’s going to be beyond tomorrow before we start opening the beach back up.”
Latham says there are breaches to the seawall in several areas causing significant flooding. He says the ocean level has almost reached the level of One Ocean in Atlantic Beach.
