The Jacksonville Jaguars have released defense end Aaron Kampman on Thursday.
Kampman’s residency on the team was plagued by injuries. He hasn’t been able to practice once this offseason and he wasn’t going to be ready to play until after the start of training camp.
He was set to make $4.975 million for this year’s season.
Kampman signed a four-year deal with the Jaguars before the 2010 season. He was coming off a torn ACL, and then he tore the ACL in his other knee after eight games.
Last season he was inactive for the first five games while he was recovering. He returned to the field on October 16 in Pittsburgh. After playing three games he suffered a hamstring injury that left him inactive for four more games before being placed on injured reserve on December 9.
In eleven games for the Jaguars, Kampman had four sacks – a small number relative to the 54 he had in his eight years with Green Bay.
Jeremy Mincey, Tyson Alualu and second-round pick Andre Branch will play defense end this season.
Kampman attended the University of Iowa where he was a two-time Academic All-America selection and three-time all-conference honoree. He graduated with a degree in elementary education.
He grew up in Kesley, Iowa and was a high school teammate with Jaguars veteran center Brad Meester while at Aplington-Parkersburg High School.
