Jacksonville veterinary clinic helping to heal dog with broken back abandoned by owners

Jacksonville, FL — Blue is a puppy that's received a lot of love and care from his community.

Blue had a broken back and was unable to use his back legs.

A veterinarian at First Coast Veterinary Specialists was able to do a three-hour surgery on him and he's now stabilized, healing in a temporary foster home.

Blue got to try out a wheelchair that he got to help him get around, but it was a little too big.

Blue got a wheel chair! It was a little too big, so he's getting a smaller one next week ☺️

His temporary foster mom said he’ll be getting a smaller one next week.

His foster mom said there will be daily updates on Blue on his Facebook page, and this is also where people can go to donate to help him heal.

Staff at the veterinary clinic hope that maybe one day, Blue will regain the use of his legs, but they are uncertain right now since he’s only been recovering from surgery for a week.

His foster mom said he’s still swollen from his surgery, but is in good spirits. He’s even eating a little more.

Dr. Thomas McNicholas said Blue has a four- to six-month recovery ahead of him.

If you would like to learn how you can become a permanent medical foster or adopt Blue, call First Coast Veterinary Specialists.
