JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A dirt bike speeding on Capper Road was struck by a sports utility vehicle this afternoon. A man in his 20s died because of the crash.

Police said that the bike was traveling around 60 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-zone. As the small SUV was making a left-hand turn to go south on Bessent Road, the dirt bike crashed into the vehicle. The motorcycle slid into the west bound lane where the was hit by another vehicle.
The rider was transported to a local hospital where he died.
JSO said this is the 164th traffic fatality in the county. It’s the 31st death involving a motorcyclist.
Witnesses and the driver of the SUV are said to be cooperating with police. A toxicology report on the rider of the bike will take time to get the results back.
JSO also said the dirt bike was not street-legal.
“In this case the motorcycle was an off-highway two wheel dirtbike that was not equipped nor registered for roadway use and it does not appear that the rider was wearing a helmet,” police said. “There were no signs of impairment on either of the other two vehicle operators who remained at the scene and are cooperating with detectives.”
