JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is looking to move more of its staff into the Florida Blue building in Brooklyn.
In Sept. 2023, the city council signed off on a 12.5-year lease agreement for JSO to move some of its operations into the Florida Blue building.
Since then, JSO has already moved several of its departments.

The agency wants to vacate the Police Memorial Building downtown and consolidate all operations into one facility.
On Monday, the Mayor’s Budget Review Committee voted unanimously to allow the introduction of legislation for the amended lease agreement between JSO and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, which would expand both the available office space and lease terms.
It can now go to the city council for discussion.

According to documents Action News Jax obtained, JSO is asking for an additional roughly 240,000 square feet of office space within the tower, which would cost $20 per square foot a year. JSO also wants 19,247 square feet of “warehouse space” along with additional parking garage space.
When Action News Jax talked with Sheriff T.K. Waters last year, he said the current headquarters does not have enough office space or parking, which is why they want to fully relocate to Florida Blue.

“Being able to move into a building that we can lease, where the maintenance is going to be handled by the owner of that building is huge for us and a long-term savings for our city,” Waters said.
Waters added the space would help the department.
“We realize there was a lot of space there and it would serve us, it would serve our needs for parking and everything,” Waters in Jan. 2024.
The new lease agreement would be just over 26 years, including two renewal options.
