Man shot during reported argument over child custody in the Ortega Farms area, JSO reports

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A reported dispute over child custody turned violent in the Ortega Farma area of Jacksonville, leaving one person injured.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting incident at the 5200 block of Seaboard Ave around 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found an adult man in his 50s with a gunshot wound to the stomach, described as non-life-threatening.

According to JSO, the altercation occurred between the victim and the mother of his child. Matters escalated when a friend of the mother, identified as a man in his 40s, allegedly shot the victim during the argument.

The child, whose age and gender were not disclosed during the police briefing, was reportedly present at the scene during the altercation.

Currently, authorities are evaluating potential arrests in connection with the incident. Details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting and any further developments in the investigation are yet to be disclosed.
