Immediately following the verdict in the Michael Dunn murder trial, WOKV was getting reaction from people outside the Duval County Courthouse.
"I think they did an excellent job," one woman said of the jury. She says she's just glad the judicial process was carried out properly.
"I feel that the jury rendered the verdict based on the instructions they received and what more can you ask for? Our system seems to have worked," added Michael, another man outside the courthouse.
Sheena Cenescar disagrees and says justice was not served for Jordan Davis.
"I believe [Dunn] should have been convicted of murder. Because that's what he did. He murdered an innocent young man."
Cenescar tells WOKV she met Jordan Davis and his friends several times at the very gas station where he was killed. She says each time they crossed paths, Jordan and his friends were all very respectful and polite. She added that she didn't agree with the message that some protesters were sending outside the courthouse.
"It's not about racism. It's about justice for Jordan. And I felt they were out here with the wrong view."
On Twitter we heard reaction from many of our listeners as well.
Pastor Ken Williams tweeted "People need to stop overreacting. Mr. Dunn will spend many years in prison over the counts convicted. Slow down people."
Michael Cary added "It's probably as good an outcome as was attainable with the first degree murder charge. Extraordinarily hard to prove in this case."
Edgardo Beckham says "While I'm disappointed Dunn didn't get [convicted] for first degree murder. I'm shocked the jury couldn't even find him guilty of second [degree murder]."
