JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was found dead late Thursday on the sidewalk off College Circle South in College Gardens.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and family confirm it was 33-year-old Sierra McKenzie.

Officers have not disclosed her cause of death, however, they said McKenzie was found in a pool of blood.
Several of McKenzie’s family members gathered at the scene early Friday morning to try to piece together what may have happened to her. They said McKenzie was a mother and a new grandmother.

Family said McKenzie lived nearby and she grew up in the neighborhood where she was killed.
Originally, officers responded to a call a little after 11 p.m. late Thursday night about a woman on the sidewalk unresponsive.
Upon arrival, they found McKenzie dead at the scene. They said she was found bleeding from the back of her head due to some sort of trauma, but the cause of her death is still under investigation.

Her sister-in-law Roshelle Taylor said the family is “not going to let another black woman get killed and not get justice.”
“She was loved by the community, everyone loved her. There wasn’t a house that wasn’t a neighbor or a friend,” Taylor said.
