Jacksonville misses the cut for Amazon HQ2

Jacksonville, FL — Jacksonville failed to land on Amazon’s top 20 locations for its second headquarters.

Amazon says that after sorting through 238 proposals, the potential locations still include tech-strong places like Boston and New York. Other contenders include:

Chicago
Indianapolis
Columbus, Ohio
Los Angeles
Austin
Dallas
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Miami
Atlanta
Denver
Washington D.C.
Montgomery County, Maryland
Nashville
Newark
Northern Virginia, Virginia
Raleigh

The company is expected to make a final selection sometime this year. Amazon.com Inc. said it will make a final selection sometime this year.

“Jacksonville’s pursuit of the Amazon HQ2 location was aspirational, and demonstrates exactly the type of economic, business development opportunities important to the city’s future. While Jacksonville was not named as a finalist for this project, Mayor Curry and the administration work every day to identify opportunities that expand the local economy and create jobs while protecting taxpayer money.” Tia R. Ford, City of Jacksonville – Public Information Officer

Jacksonville offered up to 200-acres of waterfront property for free if the company establishes its second headquarters in the River City.

City officials said the Jacksonville Shipyards, located in downtown Jacksonville, would be conveyed at no cost for Amazon.

The proposal pitched Jacksonville as having the ideal network access points needed for the Seattle-based commerce company.
