Jacksonville mayor and city officials spell out safe practices for Florida-Georgia Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mayor Donna Deegan gathered with leaders from the sheriff’s office, fire department, transit authority and others to remind football fans how to stay safe during the week of concerts, tailgating and sports.

“This game has been really a huge and important tradition for 90 years in our city,” Deegan says. “I just want everyone to have fun.”

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Chief Ellis Burns tells fans to park early so they don’t miss out.

“Please be mindful of traffic when crossing the street and be aware of your surroundings,” Ellis says. “So let me recap: be at your parking spot five hours early; be in line at the gate by 2:30pm at the latest so you don’t miss kickoff.”
