Jacksonville man arrested for murder accused of killing mother, sources say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 9:50 p.m.: Sources tell Action News Jax that Steven Allen McInnis is accused of murdering his mother. He was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office after claiming he killed someone on Jan. 7.

Neighbors say McInnis’ mother was in her 80s and used a walker to get around. They say she was always willing to help out when needed.

Jacksonville police have arrested a man in the murder of a woman on the Westside.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Jan. 7, officers responded to the 8000 block of Wilson Blvd. where a man was claiming he killed someone.

Officers responded to the scene where they located an unresponsive woman. She was pronounced dead by members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

JSO said the suspect was identified as Steven Allen McInnis, 62, of Jacksonville.

McInnis was arrested and charged with murder.
