JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Big news for local travelers: Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) is adding a new airline to its lineup. Avelo Airlines will become the 10th carrier at the airport.

It’s offering nonstop flights to Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport starting Feb. 14, 2025. The new service will provide more options for passengers traveling to and from Jacksonville, with one-way fares starting as low as $48.

Avelo Airlines, known for its affordable fares and top rankings in performance, boasts an 85% on-time arrival rate and the lowest cancellation rate in the industry at just 0.5%. These high marks are among the reasons Jacksonville International chose Avelo as its newest airline.

“It gives our passengers an opportunity to connect nonstop to a new destination. It also means that people in New Haven are now able to enjoy Northeast Florida, which will help increase tourism here,” Greg Willis with Jacksonville Aviation Authority said.

Avelo, which launched in April 2021, is a relatively new player in the aviation industry. Since its debut, the airline has flown over 6 million customers on more than 46,000 flights. Now, Avelo serves 54 cities across 24 states and Puerto Rico, as well as three international destinations: Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

“We’re also an airline that values partnership. With Jacksonville, we had great partnerships with the airport. It makes sense for us to try service here as the next place for our expansion,” Mike Corcoran with Avelo Airlines said.

Avelo won’t be the only airline offering nonstop flights to New Haven. Breeze Airways, another budget carrier, is launching its own service to Connecticut on Feb. 6, creating competition between the two airlines.

“Competition in the market means lower fares for our travelers, and lower fares for our travelers is a good thing,” Willis said.

To accommodate the increase in passengers, JIA is expanding its infrastructure. The airport recently added a third economy lot and is currently constructing a new parking garage, which will provide 2,000 additional spaces.

Avelo Airlines said it will evaluate the performance of its New Haven route to determine whether to add more destinations from Jacksonville in the future.

The airline will operate the New Haven route twice a week, on Fridays and Mondays.
