Jacksonville, Fl. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Jacksonville Beach.
Late Wednesday night, police say a suspect was walking along Beach Boulevard when he started shooting at the police cruiser that was driving down the road. The officer inside the cruiser started to chase after the suspect who then started running toward the beach.
This is the other scene where FDLE has set up, down the street from Waffle House. This is the area where police say a man shot at an officer’s patrol car as it drove on Beach Blvd. @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/6Nvax3tcG6

When the suspect approached the Waffle House, he was met by two other police officers and they started exchanging gunfire. Jacksonville Beach Police say the suspect was shot as well as one of their own.
They were both taken to the Hospital – the officer was shot twice but is stable and in “good spirits” at the hospital. Police did not have a condition update for the suspect.
Neither the suspect or the police officer have been identified.
Waffle House on Beach still closed. Publix will be opened at usual. No word on how long traffic diverted. @ pic.twitter.com/fNazNiITJA

Just spoke with the Mayor as he left the hospital to be with officer & his family. He says the officer is in stable condition and “strong as an ox”. @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/ig2XECyHoi
