Jacksonville animal shelters partnering to offer free pet adoption due to overcrowding

The Jacksonville Humane Society and Animal Care and Protective Services are offering free pet adoptions this weekend, to help curb major overcrowding issues at both facilities.

The “Bow-Wow-Meow-Luau” is made possible through a grant from the Best Friends Animal Society, so that JHS and ACPS do not have to use operating costs to cover the cost of adoptions.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both locations, and Sunday, June 12 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. JHS is located at 8464 Beach Blvd. and ACPS is located at 2020 Forest Street.

“We really just want to find great homes for as many pets as possible this weekend,” Lindsay Layendecker, development manager, JHS told WOKV. “It’s summer time and shelters are always full, so it’s a great time for this event.”

There are no adoption fees, but a $20 city license fee may apply. Otherwise, all pets will come spayed/neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated for free. Most pets can go home with a family on the same day as adoption.
