Moosehaven in Orange Park was painted purple, as hundreds gathered to remember 7-year-old Somer Thompson.
“I just really wanted this to be a good event to remember Somer. And not to be so somber because even though we’re sad and we miss her, she’s the lucky one. She’s in heaven with God,” says Somer’s mom Diena Thompson as she held back tears from the crowd. The crowd continued to scream “we love you Diena” as she continued to talk on stage.
Diena Thompson told WOKV she is so thankful for the community for their continued support. “ I don’t know if most people when they’re in this situation get as lucky as I as far as the community is concerned, and how they pulled together and all the things that they’ve done,” says Thompson.
The night ended with candles lit as hundreds sang Somer’s favorite song, you are my sunshine.
