Historic Mega Millions jackpot won in California

COTTONWOOD, Ca. — The fifth-largest Mega Millions jackpot in history was won on Friday night.

A ticket sold in Cottonwood, California matched all six numbers drawn: the white balls 3, 7, 37, 49, and 55, plus the gold Mega Ball 6.

The jackpot was worth an estimated $1.22 billion with a $549.7 million cash option.

This is the seventh Mega Millions jackpot higher than $1 billion.

According to Mega Millions, there were more than 31.4 million winning tickets across all prize tiers during this 31-drawing run. It began after the last jackpot was won in Texas on Sept.10.
